Valerie Waugaman Retires (From the IFBB)

Siren: Valerie WaugamanSiren: Valerie WaugamanAt the Ironman pro in Los Angeles this past weekend, Valerie Waugaman ("Siren" on "American Gladiators") announced her retirement from IFBB figure competitions.

"I don’t want to go on the stage and be anything less than spectacular," Wauagaman told Allan Donnelly of FlexOnline. She also said that:

The sport has brought me to a new opportunity in the entertainment business. Right now, I feel the opportunity is large for me to be able to influence children and adults in a positive way in terms of health and fitness and wellness.

When did fame reach moral parity with altruism? What is it with people claiming they're on "American Gladiators" because they want to help other people? It's American-Freaking-Gladiators, not Mother Teresa's mission in the slums of Calcutta.

In truth, the existence of "American Gladiators" simply aggravates one of the most serious problems Americans face today: the lure of spandex. How many fat people - inspired by the likes of Valerie Waugaman - will waddle outside this summer in tight, synthetic fabrics? As the rolls of their flab-lined thighs distend Under Armour bike shorts and blight the landscape, who will rise up and end this travesty?

Fate is calling YOU, Valerie Waugaman. You want to make the world a better place? Tell the fatties to cover up.

You, sir, are totally out of line to tell her that her fate is to "Tell the fatties to cover up." Are you also that narrow minded that you believe she and her fellow gladiators are the reason that overweight people dress in the things they do. Maybe those people just don't have any fashion sense and will wear what any woman half their size will wear, regardless of what they see on TV.
You started out with a valid point but also failed to see that maybe she was wanting to use it as a springboard to bigger and better things. Before you write something else as unthought out as this try taking the blinders off and look at it from different angles.
