American Gladiators Recap

Here's the most recent two-minute summary of "American Gladiators".

Gimmick Contenders

I'm really very annoyed with "American Gladiators" this season, because many of the competitors are "gimmick" competitors. Tonight it was twins, next week it will be two married couples, etc. What does it mean that there are gimmick competitors? It means they passed by the most able potential contenders in order to find ones whose personal storylines seemed sufficiently novel.

TV concerns are obviously going to intrude into any program like "American Gladiators". For example: everyone on the show is going to be at least a little bit pretty. However, for the second season of the show the requirements are approaching the freakish. It's interfering in the quality of the competition and more importantly the credibility of the competition.

Next season the producers should just try to find the best jocks, and ignore all the Jerry Springer crap.

Gina Carano Sexy?

Crush: Gina CaranoCrush: Gina CaranoI loved this article from Yahoo! Sports, wherein we learn that

...Carano, who had a 12-1-1 record as a Muay Thai boxer before transitioning to MMA and compiling a 5-0 mark, doesn’t get the whole sex symbol thing.

“All the attention has helped me, but it’s also hurt me,” she said. “Sometimes, you get portrayed the way you don’t want to be portrayed. People start thinking about you a certain way. I’m like, ‘What’s everybody talking about with this sex appeal thing?’ I don’t get it. I’m not that way. I’m not that person and I’m never going to be that girl, because it’s not in me to get people’s attention sexually. But that’s what people are saying out there now.

Where to begin? There are a hell of a lot of female martial artists out there, why did Carano think "American Gladiators" wanted her for the show? (The black corset and cleavage-forming top should have been dead giveaways.) And the name "Crush" - what did she think that was about? Do they not have double-entendres in Texas?

Anyway, make sure to tune in to Gina Carano and the rest of the girls tonight on "American Gladiators".

Hellga Goes Swimming

Hellga goes swimming, courtesy of competitor superwoman De Day. Day is 5'3", 115 pounds and somehow knocked 6'1", 205 pound Hellga into the drink. I love Hellga (Robin Coleman), but damn! Go De!
